Zigbee is a wireless technology designed for low-power devices in your home. It uses a mesh network, where devices can talk to each other and relay signals, making it reliable and long-range. This makes Zigbee perfect for Home Assistant systems, as it allows you to connect many battery-powered sensors and lights without draining their batteries or bogging down your Wi-Fi network.
You will require additional hardware to enable it. I went with the Sonoff Universal Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle.

Once plugged into a USB port on your Raspberry Pi, Home Assistant will immediately detect it.
Under Settings.

You will see Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus. Click CONFIGURE.

Click SUBMIT.

As I have previously used this dongle and I want to go with a fresh setup I will click Erase network settings and create a new network.

The setup is in my Cabin so I will add that area. I click on Add new area…

I add Cabin for the Name, and use the mdi:greenhouse for the icon and click ADD.

Click FINISH.

Under Configured you will now see zha.

Congratulations, you now have zigbee set up and the choice of hardware to automate has greatly increased.
