Install Home Assistant for the Raspberry Pi 5 on an SD card.

At this stage you should have a Raspberry Pi 5 and an SD card (32GB is the minimum card size recommended). I opted to mount my Raspberry Pi in a case to leave the hardware on display.
On a Windows computer, download the Raspberry Pi Imager from here Raspberry Pi Imager. At the time of documenting the version was 1.8.5.

Once downloaded, run the installer and click Install

Leave the checkbox ticked to Run Raspberry Pi Imager and click Finish

There are 3 settings that need be selected. Click Choose Device.

As the setup is on a Raspberry Pi 5, select the Raspberry Pi 5 option.

Next the OS will be selected. To get to the correct OS we need to drill down by selecting Other specific-purpose OS.

Next, select Home assistants and home automation.

Then select Home Assistant.

Finally select Home assistant OS 12.1 (RPI 5). The version available may be a later version when you are installing.

Next is to select where to install. If you have your SD card plugged into your Windows computer, it should display here. In this install a 32GB SD card is being used and is showing as D:\

At this stage all 3 selections are in place and the install screen should look like the following. Click Next.

A warning will appear to ensure that you know that you will be wiping the SD card. Click Yes.

The install will take a few minutes and displays a progress screen.

Once complete a Write Successful box will display. Remove the SD card from your Windows Computer and you can click Continue.

Place the SD card in the Raspberry Pi and prepare to Configure Home Assistant
